Diompillor Australia is a not-for-profit community organisation that brings together people of Kissi heritage from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone now living across Australia. Our name, Diompillor, is a Kissi word that means "unity" — and unity is at the heart of everything we do.
The Kissi people are an ethnic group whose roots run deep across West Africa. We are found mainly in southern Guinea, eastern Sierra Leone, and northern Liberia. Historically, we belonged to one kingdom, but colonial powers divided our lands and families by drawing artificial borders between countries. Today, some Kissi people speak French (in Guinea) while others speak English (in Sierra Leone and Liberia), yet our shared culture, traditions, and values remain strong. Even with these divisions, the spirit of the Kissi people has never faded. Through cultural gatherings, associations, and shared customs, we’ve stayed connected. In fact, since the 1980s, Kissi communities living in the diaspora have been actively seeking ways to reunite — leading to the creation of organisations like Diompillor America in 1981 and, later, Diompillor Australia in 2008, founded in Adelaide, South Australia.
As more Kissi families settled across the country, Diompillor chapters were formed in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. During a national conference in 2014, the idea of a unified, national Diompillor Australia was born — and we’ve been growing ever since.
Everything we do is guided by a clear vision, a strong mission, and deeply held values that reflect who we are as a community.
To support Kissi individuals and communities across Australia, helping them settle, integrate, and thrive as part of the broader Australian society.
1. Leadership & Oversight
We coordinate programs across all state chapters of Diompillor in Australia and help resolve issues—ensuring the well-being of our members here and in the Mano River region (Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone).
2. Respect for All
We value every state chapter equally. We listen, we collaborate, and we honor the unique contributions of every member and volunteer.
3. Transparency
We believe in openness. Our members, supporters, and partners have the right to understand how the organisation operates and how decisions are made.
